The family of Prince Stirbey
has owned vineyards in the Dragasani wine
region in southern Romania since the 18th century. Their wines were
famous for their outstanding quality not only in Romania, but also
throughout Europe. In 2001, the wine estate was restituted to Baroness
Ileana Kripp, granddaughter of Princess Maria Stirbey.
Since 2003, on the estate´s 20 hectares of vineyards, planted with traditional Romanian and international grape varieties, high quality wines are being created, in order to be delivered through restaurants, hotels and specialized shops to enthusiasts of natural wines, devoted to terroir. Through nature-oriented work in the vineyards, adapted to the natural conditions of every single parcel, and severe limitation of grape quantities per vine - three to six tons per hectar, depending on variety, parcel and climate - it is ensured that only healthy and top quality grapes reach the winery. During vinification, priority is given to attentive treatment of grapes, must and wine nature makes our wines, the winemaker is their delivery nurse, making sure that they can mature and grow up under optimal conditions. It´s our aim to give each wine the chance to develop its own character - each distinguishable from the other, forming together a family devoted to terroir and local traditions, and clearly different from international “world-wines”. ![]() |
