Domeniul Coroanei Segarcea has been functioning as a vine exploitation since 1884, when the land where right now lies the plantation was chosen by King Charles I of Romania from a 184.000 ha surface, as the most suitable area in Romania for cultivating vineyards.        
    Due to the area which is suitable for vineyards, (Segarcea lies on the same parallel with Piemonte and Bordeaux) and due to the vine culture and winemaking technology,  the products obtained in Domeniul Coroanei constituted themselves as the most precious and expensive wines in Romania between the wars, as they were the Royal House of Romania wines, which were awarded medals and were renowned in international  wine competitions of the time.    
    Starting from 2002, the vineyard and the winery in Segarcea were bought from the Romanian State by the Anghel family, the present owners.   
    Starting with 2004, they have initiated an ample investment program, in order to redo the entire plantation and to rebuild the winery according to the latest technology in vine culture and winemaking.
    Thus, the 277 ha belonging to the Domain were completely replanted with vines from selected varieties, supplied by nurseries in Italy and France.  The vineyard structure comprises 60 % red grape varieties, 30% white grape varieties and 10 % aromatic varieties.
    In parallel with the vineyard reconstruction, the historic winery extension began, its dimensioning according to the plantation dimensions and the winery retechnologization according to the present winemaking norms.
    The gravitational winemaking principle was maintained, the grape reception is made on the 4th level of the winery, pressing on the 3rd level, fermentation on the 2nd level, and wine aging is made in wooden barrels on the 1st level, underground, at a  – 9 metre level.
    The plantation produces abound 3000 tons of grapes a year and the total capacity of the winery is 4 million litres/ year.
    The two lines of products (Prestige and Elite) include wines from international varieties, such as: Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Viognier, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and wines from local varieties, such as: Tămâioasă Românească, Fetească Albă, Fetească Regală, Fetească Neagră.
    Starting from 2007, the year in which the new plantation started to produce, the premises for obtaining products available for export were created, produced in accordance with West- European quality standards.
    In this sense, entering the external market and finding a partner together with whom to work on building  this market represents an important strategic priority.
